My hamster is losing hair from his private area to his tummy, will it grow back?

You might want to take it to the vet. Hairloss can be a sign that it has mites. Especially if it is itching a lot too.

It may after the mites are gone.

What kind of shaving's are you using in the cage...? He may have some kind of allergy to them, which are making him bite or scratch too much. He might be losing his hair that way.

It could also be a food allergy. Cats especially will lick off the hair on their stomach if they're stomach's upset due to food allergy. I have a cat that's very sensitive, and she licked herself clean bald, including the underside of her tail. Once we got her on a limited food diet, the hair grew back.

The licking of the stomach is most likely a discomfort issue.

A vet's visit may be in order if your hamster seems to be in distress or licking the skin raw.

I take my hamster to the vet just for regular check ups, they have short life spans so i think this is a good way to ensure your hamster has a slightly longer happier life.

They one thing my vet does is check for hair loss. She did this last night, on harrys last visit and she said that the reason hamster loose hair is through hormonal problems. Luckily Harry is in tip top condition, but its always best to take him along to your local vet to have him checked over.
