Why is my dog losing her hair?

I have a beautiful 2 year old sheltie who is losing her hair. I know she has allergies, but we stay on top of that, and her hair has just started falling out. She was spayed 3 weeks ago. I have even thought that maybe the anesthesia might be causing it. Or maybe the stress from the surgery, although she came through it just fine. any suggestions before we make the trip to the vet? We live in Alabama, so I know it's hot outside, but she's inside all of the time in the A.C. Thanks for any replies.

Why is my dog losing her hair?

well

i thought that shelties shed anyways

dogs shed for the weirdest reasons.....our female pom was losing her hair after giving birth to her puppoes.......and we dont know why.......the good part is that it has stopped and is now growing back. The best thing to do is just leave it for a week or two and see whether it continues to happen or not......if you are really worried then take her to the vet.......they will know what to do.

good luck

she is just blowing her coat,, they do shed you know.. and the stress from the surgery just speeded it up... relax.

Why is my dog losing her hair?

it could be what you are feeding her an if she is shedding or just getting old

Why is my dog losing her hair?

Why is my dog losing her hair?

I keep telling people to change their dog's diet to a product that is free of preservatives, chemicals and fillers. Maybe you are already doing that. I don't know if it is the food that is causing her hair to fall out or if she is just shedding alot. If I were you I would definately take her to a vet, then I would change her diet to Flint River Ranch Pet Food. The stuff is awesome, no gluten, no chemicals, no by-products. You can't buy any good food in any store. Check it out www.frrco.com/122135. You will be amazed at the difference it will make in your dog's health. Less shedding too. It is recommended for dogs with allergies. Please get your dog to a vet and then change the food and see for yourself.

Why is my dog losing her hair?

most dogs shed once a year and that normal but if it excessive shedding or losing patches than shou should get worried and it could also be mange its highly contagious just to make sure take her to the vet.

Why is my dog losing her hair?

It's just natural for a dog to lose its winter coat in the summer. It doesnt matter if its inside in the ac, its still going to shed.

It's nothing major, I don't think. Unless she's losing large clumps of hair and getting bald spots...is she?

If not, dont worry about the vet. Here are a few solutions:

Hope I helped.

And remember unless shes losing large clumps and having bald spots theres no reason to take her to the vet.

Why is my dog losing her hair?

Has her hair fallen out at any other times? Maybe this time last year? More than likely it is seasonal thing - but Still - best to just ask the vet.

You might want to call your vet and ask them for any possibilities of what else may be wrong.

Does she have any rashes or is she itching? I had a dog once and he had seborrheic dermatitis, and he had huge patches of fur that were missing and replaced by dried out scabby skin. It was miserable.

I hope you find out! I know what it's like to worry about a pet. They are family, and unfortunately they cannot talk to us!!

Why is my dog losing her hair?

It doesn't matter if she is inside, she is still going to shed her winter coat for the summer, it's normal.

Just brush her and help her keep it thin.

Why is my dog losing her hair?

its normal

shelties shed

She needs to be checked by the vet. And you need to describe what "losing her hair" mean. Is it coming out in handfuls? Or is it just some hair when you comb or brush her? If it's coming out in handfuls and she is going bald, the vet needs to do a thyroid test on her, in fact a full checkup.
