Why is my staffordshire bull terrier losing hair?

I have a female staffy who is 5. When she was around 1 her hair fell out in a patch on her right side. We took her to the vet who ran many tests to no avail. As she has got older each year around the same time she has the same problem only it has got gradually worse - larger area and both sides. We have had alot more tests which have really not given us any answers. Our vet did say that staffies are prone to alot of skin problems though. So if this sounds familiar to you try not to worry, ours really doesn't seem bothered at all when this happens. Her hair grows back in after a few weeks. I would still get it checked if it persists though, hopefully you will get more answers than we did! Good luck.

There could be several reasons why a dog loses hair. To mention a few: allergy, fungus, mange, fleas, lice, thyroid .....best thing to take it to the vet, and get a skin scraping first. If nothing shows up, then have blood work done.

The vet will advise on the proper treatment. Also buy a medical or Iodine shampoo to relieve any itching/burning.

Take it to the vet as soon as possible to avoid any secondary skin infection.

This happened to my staffy when she turned a yr old, shes now 3.I took her to the vets many times. She lost a lot of hair, under her body (stomach, neck etc) and they didn know why.I tried changing her diet, bathing her in special shampoo but nothing has worked. Many staffys i have met have exactly the same thing, they are just prone to skin problems, espcially dry skin and hair loss.Where exactly is the hairloss?
