If i give my cat a bathe. will that stop her from losing hair? or it will make it worst.?

i adopted my cat about 3 months ago. Didn't get any details on what food she ate before or anything like that. She's now a inside cat, but am suppecting that she was a outdoor cat, from the way she would cry to go out.

I took her to a vet, she got shots and everything. But that still didn't help.

I never had a cat before, this is my first time. But i wanted to give her a bathe, to maybe stop her from losing all her hair. Can some please help me.

maybe but the bath was probabily a good idea because the cat's skin is now clean

i would take it to the vet again.

"Grooming

Most cats stay relatively clean and rarely need a bath, but you should brush or comb your cat regularly. Frequent brushing helps keep your cat's coat clean, reduces the amount of shedding and cuts down on the incidence of hairballs."

It will make it worse. The best thing to do is to feed healthy food like Wellness, and add a little Salmon Oil (make sure it's antibiotic free) and that will make her hair and skin healthier. My cat used to shed all the time, but feeding a healthy food makes her healthier and her hair shines, and she no longer itches. If it is a real bad problem of hair falling out you may want to check to see if there is a thyroid problem. Good luck!

Whatever you do, a bathe will destroy any healthy oils she has, and make it worse, not to mention make her very unhappy.

I have ALWAYS given my cats baths-and I've had about a dozen. They will lose a lot less hair if you do it every other month. The first few times your cat will probably still lose a lot of hair but by washing him/her it will get rid of the hair quicker. Make sure you brush too. Your cat may not like it, but its worth it.

Good luck

After the bath get a really thin brush, and brush the S**t out of it%26lt; This will help with the shedding, and if you brush the cat all the time you will notice alot less hair around the house

dont give your cat a bath, cats can get sick and die like that, because they cant sweat like we do when they are sick, and your cat will most likely die if you do.

What kind of shots did she get from the vet?

What food does she eat?

Its normal for cats to shed a bit, but if she's losing a lot there is something wrong and the shots don't treat the problem, just the symptoms.

She could be allergic to something in her food (beef, corn, etc), she could be allergic to something in your house, or she may have a medical condition. Please ask your vet to do some more thorough checking and do not give her more shots until you know what is wrong. If the shots were steroids there is a chance they can cause your cat to develop complications like diabetes.

Shedding is a normal thing for cats. If she is experiencing "normal amounts" of shedding, a bath won't help. Just invest in a great vaccume cleaner and take her to the groomers regularly.

However, if she is loosing clumps of fur, then you may want to get her checked out. She could have mange (sp?), allergies, or other medical issues. If she is loosing fur to the point where she has bold spots, I would take her to the vet. It could be the stress of changing homes, but it also could be medical.

Wanting to go outside is normal as well. I have an indoor cat that is NEVER outside unless he escapes. He was an indoor cat from the begining, but he still longs to go outside.... Wouldn't you?

Good luck!

UPDATE:

If you give her a bath, it could dry out her skin and cause more shedding and/or danfruff. I never give my cats baths, as they are very good at keeping themselves clean. Cats don't need weekly/monthly baths like dogs do because they clean themselves DAILY. The only time I do bathe them is when they really need it : ie, when they get skunked, into a fight (when male cats fight they often pee, and it gets all over both cats.... plus they are pretty bloody when they come home too! Tabby's are the ones that normally pee during a fight.) oh and now that my eldest cat is 21, he has a hard time cleaning himself. If I didn't have two other cats, who instinctively clean him, I would give him a bath when needed. But he careful not to bathe them on a really cold day, they may get sick.

*one of these days I will have to post a youtub vid of Tom getting his "bath" from the other cats. It is hilarious! Billy, who is very strong, holds him down while Squeaky cleans him. Tom fights at first, then just lets them do it. Thank god they did, because he can get really stinky after 2-3 days. hehehe

Oh and if you decide to bathe your cat, wear a heavy sweat shirt (protects your skin), keep your face out of the "line of claw fire", Keep the water slightly above luck warm temp, use a gentle PET soap, have the house temp around 74 degrees, AND GOOD LUCK!

Hair Loss that is extreme is usually helped by Diet, and yes ,you can Bathe her if you need to.Add one can of Good canned food to her diet, and put her on Kitten Food to help with her nutritional needs for now.Switch her slowly over a weeks time to help her adjust, but you can add the canned in today first for a week.Take her to the Vet to rule out a Thyroid condition if she is not better within two weeks.

If she was an outside cat, depending on weather (taking a guess here,) if it was cold outside she built up a winter coat for protection and bringing her in to a warm house she is shedding the coat to adapt to the temperature. Grooming her will help with the mess of hair but nothing will stop her from shedding, which she will do a few times a year. Shots are not going to make her want to stay inside, having her fixed (spayed) will help keep her inside. She just needs to get comfortable and she will enjoy being inside, she may like to be able to sit in the window. If she is dirty from being outside then you can give her a bath, once a cat is kept well indoors they don't usually need baths because cat clean themselves. Some people even brush their cat with the brush on a vacuum hose to suck up the hair. Be careful with this, if it is loud it may scare her at first.
