My Boston Terrier puppy is losing hair on her head, she's 5 months old. What could be causing i

Could be a coat change (shedding), or mange, or an allergic reaction to something. Bostons are not the healthiest dog to own.

The best advice I can give is to give your vet a call. The call is free and they may be able to help you over the phone.

The following congenital and genetic conditions are found with greater than average frequency in the Boston Terrier:

Anasarca Canine Allergies Cataracts Chemodectomas Cherry Eye (Eversion of nictitating membrane) Cleft lip Cleft palate Corneal dystrophy Craniomandibular osteopathy Cushings Disease Cystic ovaries Deafness Demodicosis Distichiasis Dystocia Endometritis Entropion Esophageal Achalasia Gastric Torsion Glaucoma Hemivertebra Hip Dysplasia Hydrocephalus (Water on the Brain) Intussusception Keratitis Sicca Mastocytoma Osteochondritis Dissecans Osteochondrosis Patellar Luxation Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) Pituitary Tumor Progressive Retinal Atrophy Pyometra Sebaceous Tumor Stenotic Nares Superficial corneal ulcer Umbilical Hernia von Willebrands Disease

Following are health screenings often performed on breeding Boston Terrier adults; choosing a puppy from a breeder who tests parents for health can help avoid future health problems in your puppy:

BAER Hearing Test

CERF Screening (Canine Eye Research Foundation)

Patellar Luxation Test - OFA

Could be the shampoo or maybe she has mange. Take her to the vet.

It could be mange. Go to the vet and find out.

It could be something as simple as she is getting her adult coat. All dogs have 2 different coats, their puppy coats and their adult coats. Also, how often do you bathe her? If you are bathing her more than once a month, you could be drying out her skin which would also cause hair loss.

To be on the safe side, take her to the vet to make sure that it is nothing to be concerned about.

I also have a boston. She had a few bald spots as well. I found that it was the air freshener spray that I was using. She was allergic to it. If you are using some type of fragrances in your home, you may want to stop because your boston may be allergic. If not, it may be mange. Look and see if it is red and blotchy. You should make a visit to the vet if this does not go away. It may be something else and you don't want to take a chance.
