My 8 month old cat is losing his hair around his neck, and down the side of his back. I am afraid that he may have gotten into something that I was not aware of (we live in the country, and although he is an inside cat, he does go outside) or maybe it is something that I should take him to a vet for.

could be mange, alopecia, fleas, tons of other stuff...take your cat to the vet. you will most likely get your answer!

if he is loosing hair around the tail area as well, this could be a thyroid problem take him to the vet
