My 9 year old cat has recently started losing his hair on his back end?

My 9 year old cat has recently started losing hair on his back end. Around his tail and his thigh the hair is getting very thin, I catch him licking it so I am wondering if maybe he has an allergy or is just pulling his hair out. What would cause this to happen?

dont listen to anyone one else. Cats that get bold patches around their tale, are biting and chewing their fur out due to flees and mites. its irritates them so much that they are forced to do that. Take him to your vet and ask what product you can use.

He is just overly licking his fur. Older cats normally do do that. So nothing to worry about, But if he licks it too much and it starts to bleed see a vet because he could have an illness. But if you really want to see if he is licking himself put him in a cone thingy

Hey you,

My cat is having the same trouble. She is about 8 years as well and she is loosing her hair on her inner/outer side of her legs and her belly. She is eating right, she's playing, and sleeps plenty. I will take her to a vet a let you know what happened.

I hope it's nothing bad. Maybe a food allergy.

She is not licking herself as much but, during their normal routine in the morning and at night she can go for like 5 minutes straight. She just got some pimples and they don't look right :(

Best of luck

I will let you know on Tuesday May 22nd.

See ya.
