My shih tzu is losing his hair one one of his legs and there is a red spot where the hair use to be?

Im trying to find out what to do; i noticed my dog was losing his hair alot more then usually and after i bath while i was combing him out and noticed on one leg he had a spot of missing hair and there was a red/brownish spot where the hair was missing, what is this and why is it there can anyone help me or tell me what to do??

When my dog got a tumor on the back of his leg, the very first thing that happened was the hair fell out on and around it, and it was red. I thought it was a bug bite at first, but then it started swelling. Is there a lump? I would take your dog to the vet as soon as you could, because the longer you wait, the more expensive it will be to fix what is wrong. Believe me, I know! Hopefully everything is OK!

Look for a center of the red/brown spot. do you see a hole? Bite? A scratch? A pimple like formation?

I'd have it checked by the vet.

Have you noticed you little one scratching or licking the area? Is there a limp?

Again, take to the vet.

i would take him to a vet or check it out on the web. maybe he may have a bald spot or a skin disease so i would go right away and get him checked.

Consult your vet, it could be just be allergies or it could be something more serious. Please call your vet!

it cld be a genetic prob, since ur dog's of shih tzu ancestry he'll experience skin eczema- itchy, flakes %26amp; balding... u can try bring it to the vet for hormone injection every 3-6 mths depends on age. my dog's a 10yr old shih tzu mix, has this problem 3-4yrs ago, we bring it to the vet for injection every 3 months, $30SGD per shot, together w some hormone pills, skin lotion, shaving- total cost per visit abt 150$SGD. u can try Addiction brand dog food, try to avoid red meats which always cause allergies to flare up in dogs, try fish as recommended by my vet- its most healthy n it works fine!
